Frequently Asked Questions
We understand choosing the right tutor for your child is important. Below are answers to common questions about how our sessions work, what to expect, and how we support students.
We specialise in evidence‑based literacy and numeracy intervention, delivered by an experienced, qualified teacher.
Our sessions are structured and systematic, and they’re grounded in evidence‑based teaching approaches. We identify your child’s learning gaps and provide clear, targeted instruction to build the strong foundation they need for long‑term success. At the same time, we make sure lessons feel positive, engaging and fun so your child enjoys learning and grows in confidence.
Our focus is on intervention rather than general homework assistance.
Homework may be included when it directly supports the student’s targeted learning goals. Our primary aim is to develop the foundational skills that underpin success across all areas of schoolwork.
We support predominantly primary‑aged students, along with high school learners requiring targeted assistance in:
- Early reading and phonics
- Fluency and comprehension skills
- Foundational spelling and writing skills
- Number sense and core maths concepts
We use evidence‑based, structured programs like UFLI Foundations, Jolly Phonics, Science of Reading principles, and explicit numeracy teaching. Our teachers blend the parts that work best for each child, creating lessons that are intentional, personalised, and enjoyable.
All sessions are 45 minutes in length.
This allows for focused, high-impact instruction while maintaining engagement and momentum.
For students with identified skill gaps, we strongly recommend twice-weekly sessions.
Consistency accelerates progress and supports retention of new skills.
Once-weekly sessions are suitable for maintenance or lighter support needs.
Sessions are delivered live via a secure online platform.
Students engage in interactive, structured lessons using explicit instruction, guided practice and real-time feedback.
Teachers use skill assessment to understand a student’s current capabilities and to inform the targeted instruction that will move their learning forward.
Every child grows and learns at their own pace. Some only need a short burst of focused support, while others benefit from a steadier, longer‑term approach. Whatever the timeframe, our goal is always the same: to build independence and confidence, not to keep children in tutoring forever.

We just ask for 14 days’ notice in writing if you’d like to finish up.
Usually yes, but a substitute may be assigned if needed.
For safety and supervision, all sessions must be held in a shared indoor space in the home, with a responsible adult present.
Tutors will always do their best to sort out any technical hiccups during a lesson. However, we can’t take responsibility for issues caused by your device, internet connection, or outages on the platforms we use. If the problem is on your side or with an external service, the lesson may still be charged as usual.
